Chemists Celebrate Earth Day: Dig It! Earth Day is April 22, 2006, and the American Chemical Society’s theme for this year is “Dig It!”. In celebration of Earth Day, this issue contains articles on soil chemistry, environmental chemistry, and green chemistry. The cover shows an aerial view of Kansas soil prepared for agricultural use: the plowed contour terraces reduce soil erosion by water run-off while the grass-covered waterways trap eroded topsoil and decrease groundwater contamination from agricultural chemicals.
