ACS International Academic Plan
The ACS International Academic plan is tier-based and places primary emphasis on Carnegie equivalent
tiers. To create these tiers, we analyzed the usage profiles of international academic institutions,
matched them to their domestic counterparts, and assigned tiers to these institutions. We created a
sixth tier to address instances of high usage. Prices will reflect volume discounts based on number
of titles taken.
We have also taken into consideration a country's ability to afford our pricing plans by employing
World Bank Index (GNI) codes (High, Upper Middle, Lower Middle, Low). The GNI codes have been used to determine
sub-tier pricing.
International Academic Tier prices will reflect the cumulative list prices of ACS Journals for each
tier designation before the volume discount is applied. These prices were developed using value
metrics (e.g. number of articles published, usage, citations, impact factors) to establish a weighting. New
Journals will be introduced at low weightings within the tiers until a publishing history is
established.
