    Abstract

The viscosity of compressed liquid 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (R245fa) and 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropane (R236fa) has been measured with a new vibrating-wire viscometer. Measurements for R245fa were carried out at 12 temperatures in the range from (263 to 373) K and at pressures from slightly above saturation up to 40 MPa, except for the isotherms at 373.14 K where the maximum pressure was 35 MPa. With regard to R236fa, measurements were performed at temperatures between (253 and 373) K and at pressures from slightly above saturation up to 40 MPa. The combined expanded uncertainty of these results with a level of confidence of 0.95 (k = 2) is about ± 2.8 %. The scheme based on a hard-spheres model was used to correlate the experimental results. The average absolute deviation of the experimental results from the correlations for R245fa and R236fa is 0.5 % and 0.43 %, respectively. Small extrapolations of the present correlation scheme to the saturation line were performed to enable a comparison with literature results at saturation pressure.
