Believe it or not, this year marks the beginning of the fifth year of publishing papers by ACS Sensors and the fifth year that some of us have been excitedly helping bring your papers to their intended audience. This year all the covers of the journal, and a lot of our marketing materials, will include a badge commemorating the anniversary similar to the one below.
For us, it seems only yesterday that we started on this journey with a goal to publish the highest quality sensing research. That was a goal that required you to put trust in us—the editors, the journal, and the American Chemical Society—that your work was in safe hands. We thank you for having done this, and for taking the journal to such a high level in such a short time. The quality of submissions that we received, even from day 1 when we only had several papers submitted, has been outstanding. The journal has continued to grow in submission numbers and quality ever since. And of course, we received our very first full impact factor this year of 6.944, much higher than what we imagined we could achieve when we started. We thank all our authors and readers for their contribution to the journal and for their support.
To mark the fifth year we will be showcasing our authors, and the breadth of our author community, with a series of virtual issues. These are planned to be interspersed across the year:
In March we hope to bring you a virtual issue on the Giants in Sensing. This is a follow-on to our editorial from November 2018 on “Remembering the Giants of Biosensing”. As so many of the greats of our field—the people who have shaped sensor science—are still research-active, we wanted to celebrate some of their papers that have made a strong impact on the field. The papers will be sourced from ACS Sensors, Analytical Chemistry, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
In May, we are planning a virtual issue on Emerging Investigators in sensing. This issue will highlight some of our authors who we feel have the potential to shape the future of sensing. We showcased some of these researchers at the Fall National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in a special “Emerging Investigators” session organized by Shana Kelley.
As the field of sensing—in common with analytical chemistry as a whole—often has one foot planted in the commercial sector, we will bring to you a virtual issue in September on Sensors & Industry, in partnership with Analytical Chemistry and ACS Photonics. These selections will highlight our authors from industry, who have contributed an impressively high number of papers that are among the most impactful and in-depth works we have received. Finally, to close out the year, in November, we will publish a virtual issue of papers from our Editorial Advisory Board. So, if you are an EAB member and have not published a paper with us yet, it is time to get going with your submission!
Our editorial team will be appearing around the globe next year, with a large presence at Pittcon in Chicago USA, at the World Biosensor Congress in South Korea, and of course, at Pacifichem in Hawaii in December. With the expanding number of submissions we will be adding a couple more editors to help expedite your papers through to acceptance as quickly as possible. It is an exciting time for ACS Sensors, and for the sensing field as a whole. Thanks for your support.

Article Views are the COUNTER-compliant sum of full text article downloads since November 2008 (both PDF and HTML) across all institutions and individuals. These metrics are regularly updated to reflect usage leading up to the last few days.
Citations are the number of other articles citing this article, calculated by Crossref and updated daily. Find more information about Crossref citation counts.
The Altmetric Attention Score is a quantitative measure of the attention that a research article has received online. Clicking on the donut icon will load a page at altmetric.com with additional details about the score and the social media presence for the given article.
