Polymer Bioconjugates in Biology and Medicine

The interface between polymer science and bioconjugate chemistry is home to an active group of scientists who seek to combine the best of both worlds: the chemical versatility of polymeric architectures with the biological function of naturally occurring molecules. In recent years, novel methodologies have been developed, both in the area of polymer science as in the field of bioconjugate chemistry, which have now opened up opportunities to construct conjugates with unprecedented level of control. This selected group of recent publications, from the macromolecules journals family – ACS Macro Letters, Biomacromolecules, and Macromolecules, along with Bioconjugate Chemistry as well as Chemical Reviews, offers evidence of this progress and serves as an example of how the advances of the last half-decade in polymer synthesis can be combined with the evolved sophistication of biological macromolecules to access new materials. We hope this collection of publications will provide insight into recent developments in the area while also providing inspiration to those seeking to develop the next generation of bioconjugates.
